Baxter's interest in art began at an early age stimulated by his paternal
grandmother, Jeannete Hampton Baxter, a journalist and painter. At
age 12 he became the youngest student of Chicago Art Institute's Roy
Keister, with whom he studied portraiture and landscape, working with
brush, palette knife, and winning local, regional and state awards
by the score.
While still
in his teens, Baxter was invited to spend academic break time at
the New England studio of Master Illustrator, Norman Rockwell, observing
and studying process and technique.
Later, at Southern
Methodist University, he studied advanced painting with Jerry Bywaters,
a founder of the famous "Dallas Four," a pace-setting
group of Southwestern artists with a dramatic and theatrical style,
which Baxter says made a lasting impression on his many choices
of diverse subjects and styles.
At SMU, Cash
Baxter added more awards to his already impressive list, and was
given two "single artist" shows at The Shuttles Gallery
in Dallas. He also became the assistant to Mr. Bywaters in teaching
Freshman Painting at the University.
Baxter's works
hang in galleries and private collections in Arizona, California,
Indiana, Illinois, Florida, Nevada, New York, Texas, Germany, Scotland
and South Africa.
Cash Baxter
is a resident of Palm Desert, California, where he continues to
win prizes and important representation in Los Angeles and the South
Bay area. He is the former President of the largest support group
of the Palos Verdes Art Center, and was Adjunct Professor of Art
History and Critical Thinking in the Arts; as well as being an Art
Patron, a member of The Exhibition Committee and the Business Council.
When scheduling
permits, Baxter joins forces for lively sessions in seascape painting
with his good friend and fellow painter, Master Teacher, E. John
Robinson, in the rugged area of Northern California near Mendocino.
This multi-faceted
man and his wife are the parents of a married son and daughter.
Mr Baxter is also an Internationally-known theatrical producer and
director from Broadway to Japan. As an artist, he continues to delight
collectors with his original paintings and custom giclée
reproductions.
